I'll look into this again. We've upgraded mailman a couple of times since
that policy was enacted. It might be able to do that now.

Hmm. well.. the desired effect from the list looks good.. However.. the
address is not obfuscated from the actual email view (which means spammers
can still join the list and harvest our addresses) The Web/Archive list
rather simply replaces the "@" in our email addresses with " at ". Not very
advanced. I imagine this will offer almost no real protection since mailman
is one of the more popular mail list packages.

And since I really do not want to restrict archive access (archive_private) to
members only (we WANT to be able to google for our own meetings, notes,
threads, etc).. this means that spammers WILL be able to harvest addresses
still by simply re-replacing " at " with "@".

Dragon..
You mentioned that you worked on mailman in another life. Is there not a
feature that will include the username in the reply email, maybe as:
	"Firstname Lastname" <xcssa at xcssa.org>

So that the name is preserved, but the replies are all sent to the list the
the poster address is stripped?

Just curious..

I'll leave this on over night and get your feedback Dragon. Feel free to hit
me up off list. BTW.. I'm not at work Friday.. I'm in training (if you want
to email me directly at work).

L8ER all...

Just keep the membership moderated and spammers can't join.

Besides, my addresses are all over the internet, so it doesn't do me
much good to try to hide them. I just let gmail do the spam filtering.
Out of the ~800 spam a day that I receive, only about one or two make
it to the inbox.

Agreed, Gmail pretty much rocks the spam filters.

I've got anton at geekdad.com posted on the side bar of a wired blog that
gets 1M uniques a month and still have no real problems with spam.

Either way, thanks for looking into this one, Tweeks! I, and I am sure others on this list, really appreciate it!

I'm trying to remember lists that seemed to do this so I find an example, I'll send it your way.
