The .TAP files are kind of a "sample" so to say so there is nothing you 
can do about speeding it up.
There is work in progress (not me) to add a fast loader to the .PRG 
files (C=64 binaries) in combination with compression. This will speed 
things up 10 fold when loading .PRG files and the loading times are down 
to "only" 5 minutes for a large program.

I wrote a piece of code that sends the raw C=64 format from a .PRG file 
and about 25K took 10 minutes to load. So in worst case scenario, if the 
Fast loader does not get done, I at least have my loader to fall back to...
