Ahh.. I see.. That's what I like about using nicer RAID cards.. Besides the 
batter backed cache and write-back reliability.. they can also work with 
certain backplanes to handle hot swap house keeping (like bus quiescing)... 
Although with SATA/SAS/etc.. that may not be required now that each device 
has it's own dedicated channel (bus-less).. hmm.. but I would think that you 
would still have the quiesce a drive before it is pulled (to dis-allow any 
more write or I/O attempts).  anyone know? My last array was SCSI.

You don't want to attempt a power draw test by doing an inline amp test on the 
DC side anyway man.. Just spend $20 and gete an AC ammeter:
