[XCSSA] Follow Up On MySQL

For the DB heads in the group, one critical thing I missed in my
explanation of the future of MySQL (granted, in a somewhat broken and
compressed way :) is the irony. Sun purchased MySQL AB, which made
Monty Widenius (the founder of MySQL) quite rich. It's open sourced
software, however, and Sun has not really helped the development
process all that much. Now that it's owned by Oracle, who knows what
their plans are.

But Monty Program AB (Monty's new venture) and Percona have been
snatching up some of the better people in MySQL/Sun/Oracle. The irony
is that Monty could end up "buying" back MySQL AB in a roundabout way
by having his new company become the dominant force behind the
product. This is even more true if the Open Database Alliance (a
venture by Monty Program, Percona, and Continuent so far) really takes
off.

So basically Sun bought MySQL so that Monty could simply get it back
and still end up being a really rich dude.

Go figure :)

Tim
