They're mostly used for space probes, in very remote areas, or as
very small "nuclear battieries". It doesn't help that they generally
need a lot of shielding. Some space probes have the RTG on a long
boom to keep the radiation away from the electronics to save weight
by using less shielding. The main disadvantage is the half-life means
that they're only good for 10-20 years or so without refueling.
