Small correction: Vixen (www.vixenlights.com) is a proprietary
Windows-only product that the author releases and supports without
charge. There is a certain amount of openness in the plug-ins (input and
output modules created with MS .Net) and file structure, but to date the
author has chosen to keep the main application closed.
People have reported some success running it under Wine, with the .Net
runtime, but not all functions have been working.

Here's the Wiki that documents some of the build-it-yourself hardware,
more or less.
