Sorry for the overpost, but I am looking for the Christmas lights display to show off to some friends. I remember Charles said he was hoping on having 144,000 lights sequenced to music and I have some family coming in that ar crazy about looking at lights. I was hoping I could find out where this was going to be.
Thanks,
Richard

The light display is up and running, though not 14,000 as I was hoping for
this year. The light count this year is closer to 10,000 (I think 144K
may be a mis-quote or typo.) The "mega" light tree alone will be made up
of 48 channels. The tree is made up of 16 slices (think about it as if
you were looking at the tree from above, it would look like a pie). This
year each slice will have one "rope" of lights consisting of one strand
each of red, green and blue. Each color in each slice will be controlled
by a separate channel and thus the 48 channels (3 times 16.) Since each
channel's intensity can be varied individually, in theory I should be able
to have 13M different colors. That is if viewed from far enough for the
RGB colors to combine. In reality I will only be using about 16 different
color combinations.
I just finished building the new controller boxes and power cord whips and
will be installing them either this afternoon or Saturday. I also
finished updating the sequences to include the new channels for the mega
tree. If you can wait, it may be rewarding to wait until Saturday, else
come out to see our display at 2903 Encino Robles.
Directions are as follows:
Heading north on US281 past loop 1604 turn right on Evans road (2nd stop
light after 1604).
Go past the next stop light (there is a Dominoes Pizza on the right at the
light) and turn right on Encino Oaks in the Encino Mesa subdivision (the
street after the stop light)
Go down the Encino Oaks until you have to turn left onto Encino Robles.
Our house is on the left corner as you turn onto Encino Robles.
Traffic on 281 is heavy between 4 and 7PM, so plan accordingly. There is
also a back route via Bulverde, but it too has heavy traffic at those
times.
Tune your car radio to FM 99.3 (this station number may change, just look
at the scrolling sign on the window to confirm the FM station to tune your
radio) to listen to the music while watching the lights.
The display will be up thru January 2, 2010. The show runs Sunday thru
Thursday looping continuously from 6 to 9:30 PM and Friday/Saturday from 6
to 11 PM. Shows are cancelled if it is raining during the show times. If
the roads are wet, there is a good chance that the show will be cancelled
that evening.
Let us know how you like the display. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thanks,
Charles S.
