No government is willing to make the kind of changes that could
prevent nearly unimaginable catastrophes starting soon but building
toward mass human die off within 200 years. Instead, we'll get a
photo-op. Effect from existing Kyoto Protocol was nearly negligible,
and governments only want to make that even weaker. Cap and Trade is
inadequate, even direct Carbon Tax probably would probably operate
too slowly. What's required is direct government investment in
rebuilding energy and transport systems at least on the scale of
military production in the US for WWII, but over 20-30 years.
Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 80% over 20 years through
efficiency, renewable energy, mass transit, de-exurbanization, and de-
militarization, and ramping toward negative net greenhouse gas
production in 50-100 years, seeking target of 350ppm CO2 or lower.
Instead, the likely outcome in this century is "last man standing"
global war which will only accelerate the catastrophes, if not the
CO2 doubling and near tripling which will only be delayed a bit by
the destruction.

The movie Road sounds interesting.
